‘When the weather is hot, keep a cool mind. When the weather is cold, keep a warm heart’ – unknown
It’s hot in the UK right now. Not as hot as it was a couple of weeks ago but hot enough to be classed as a heatwave and an amber warning to be given. Hosepipe bans are in place across large parts of the country and the government have declared a drought in some areas. It’s one of the extremely scary aspects of global warming and it is only going to get worse unless we all do our bit.
‘Humanity is sitting on a time bomb. If the vast majority of the world’s scientists are right, we have just ten years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet’s climate system into a tailspin of epic destruction involving extreme weather: floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heatwaves beyond anything we have ever experienced – a catastrophe of our own making’ – Al Gore (2007)

On a lighter note, I hope you enjoy this selection of hot weather quotes! From the funny:
‘The best thing about a heatwave is constantly having the illusion you’re getting exercise’ – unknown
‘Here’s to the heatwave for making binge-watching TV whilst eating ice cream a life-saving activity’ – unknown
‘During this heatwave, please remember to dress for the body you have, not the body you’d like to have!’ – unknown
‘What dreadful hot weather we have! It keeps me in a continual state of inelegance’ – Jane Austen

To the reflective:
‘What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness’ – John Steinbeck
‘Summer. When the days get longer, the stars shine brighter, your hair gets lighter, the water gets warmer, the music gets louder and life gets better’ – unknown
‘Summer is the annual permission slip to be lazy. To do nothing and have it count for something. To lie in the grass and count the stars. To sit on a branch and study the clouds’ – Regina Brett
‘Sun is shining. Weather is sweet. Makes you wanna move your dancing feet’ – Bob Marley

To the good advice:
‘One must maintain a little bit of summer, even in the middle of winter’ – Henry David Thoreau
‘Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine’ – Anthony J D’Angelo
‘Rise above the storm and you will find the sunshine’ – Mario Fernandez
‘Keep your face to the sunshine and you will never see the shadows’ – Helen Keller

Maybe there are a few tiny tweaks we can take from this selection of quotes about being positive, taking time to reflect and making the most of every moment. But we can also do our bit to prevent global warming destroying our planet for future generations. Whether it’s to reduce the amount of energy we use, rely less on our cars and reduce the number of times we fly, eat less meat and dairy products or reduce consumption and waste, there are so many things we can all do. It’s easy to think that our individual actions won’t make any difference, but they do. I know I need regular reminders and this current heatwave with the resulting wildfires and droughts is a big reminder for me. Let’s do this together one tiny tweak at a time!
Until next time xx

If it makes you feel any better, our temps are still hovering around 100 F and have been since June with almost no rain. When it rained the other day, I could hear the baby red tailed hawk sobbing in his nest because he was getting wet and didn’t know what the wet stuff was!!! Migrant birds have started to arrive so I suspect autumn is imminent.
